My Holistic and Paraben Free Beauty Routine

Posted by forgeyou on

As we enter the season where heightened awareness of our actions, treatment of others, and general good will is often brought to the surface, it’s also a great time of year to reevaluate the little things we do (and don’t do) each and every day. One thing that is very important to me, is holistic and health-conscious beauty products. These products that so many of us use each and every day can not only have an impact on your personal health, but on environmental health as well.

Most important, but often overlooked, is knowing your ingredients. I would recommend scanning the ingredient list of each and every product you use and purchase. It’s essential to be conscious of what you are putting on your skin and possibly even in your body. The beauty industry is one of the most unregulated industries in our country, so if you don’t do your due diligence, you can’t assume that someone else is. Secondly, I can’t stress the importance of paraben-free products. I know you’ve probably heard that parabens are bad, but do you know why?  Parabens are man-made preservative chemicals that are a cost-effective way to protect beauty products against micro-organisms. But, they have potentially serious side effects when it comes to your health. Parabens are endocrine disruptors that are stored within your body tissue and can possibly interfere with glandular activity and hormone production. They have even been linked to increasing the risk of certain cancers – including breast cancer.

So, add an extra special awareness this holiday season and be a conscious consumer when it comes to purchasing items for yourself and others. Particularly be aware of things that will go on your body and that you might use every day – like toothpaste (I recommend Tom’s of Maine). Here are my personal favorites when it comes to holistic and paraben-free products. Do you have any you’d recommend?
