Texas Hatters {Studio Visit}

I have to say, there is probably nothing finer than having something custom made, just for you.  A few weeks ago I got to join Andrew on his quest to get the perfect hat.  So where else would we go but Texas Hatters.  A true Texas original, Texas Hatters is a 4th generation family hat shop just a short drive from Austin.  Joel, the grate grandson of the founder Manny Gammage, is the hat-maker now.

When you are in the shop and studio you are obviously surrounded by history.  The famous politician and musicians on the walls fill you in on the legacy.  Getting to go into the back is a pretty great bonus in the custom hat process.  The studio is filled with 4th generation hat forms, steamers, and other equipment that I dont even know the name of!  My favorite was the old teapots on the benches rigged with a foot petal to shoot out steam for shaping.

Just a short two weeks later we were back for the hat and I have to say, the hat came out beautifully!  It is definitely the fancy hat in comparison to the now tired looking Stetson Open Road Andrew had been wearing for the past two years.

So, if you are a hat wearer, take a little drive down to Lockhart to Texas Hatters and stop off at Smitty‘s for AMAZING BBQ on the way back!
